American White Pelicans seeking refuge, Antelope Island, Utah. The pelicans had been using Gunnison Island in Great Salt Lake for their refuge and for raising their young for centuries. Because of the low water levels of the lake, the pelicans abandoned the island, which was now a landmass, where four-legged predators could pass. They are in exile with no place to go.
